It scares me to see the early aughts resurface, not because of the baggy jeans and crossbody bags, but that I will have to relive this era of unabashed mediocrity and self-satisfied violence

Evan! I relate to the part about bullying. I was an out-of-the-closet, soft-spoken kid in an all-boys high school, so you can imagine the kind of bullying I had to face. My friends had it worse, though. But college was better! Found my tribe (and also met you!)
I was also bullied in high school but I made friends with them as an adult, so I got invited to join the group chat. I left the group chat exactly because of this, and because they were bullying the same classmates after 20 years. These people are now parents, and I can't believe that they still act as douchey as before.
Yikes, I worry about their kids. I guess for people who peaked in high school, they can't help but yearn for the time when they were living their best lives.
