"my inner skeptic thinks that that belief is internalized racism and classism" - Yes, it is. Also reminds me of Manila English and how proud people are of "talking colonizer", but the priority should've always been our languages and accents first and theirs second.
I hate it when people dismiss Philippine English as not real English, especially when it comes from White people. It's like telling us after we've learned the game that it's not how the game is played. That's why I like what's happening with French in formerly colonized African countries!
